On this day in Nintendo history, Tsunekazu Ishihara was born. He is the creator of Kirby’s Pinball Land and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. On November 22nd, 2019, he died at the age of 78. His death came as a shock to many fans around the world.

  • Tsunekazu Ishihara was born in Toba, Japan, in 1957. The Pokémon Company’s President, as well as a video game creator, director, and producer. Producer for Yoshi, Producer for Mario & Wario, Special Effects Artist and Line Producer for EarthBound, and Director for Mario’s Picross are among his early credits. Ishihara formed Creatures Inc. after leaving Ape Inc. in 1995, and was engaged as a Producer in practically all Pokémon series games and spin-offs from Pokémon Red and Green. Ishihara was also in charge of the creation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game while at Creatures Inc. He founded The Pokémon Company after the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver to take over brand management duties from Game Freak.

  • In Japan, Super Team Games was published on the Family Computer in 1987. Players compete in a variety of summer camp-style events using Side B of the Power Pad in this fitness game produced by Sonata.

  • In Japan, Illusion of Gaia (known as Illusion of Time in PAL countries) was published in 1993 for the Super Famicom. Will travels into a “Dark Space” where he encounters a weird entity named Gaia in this action RPG produced by Quintet. Will is told by Gaia that he must leave his home in order to rescue the planet from an impending evil. A comet is on its way, and it will bring bad luck to the whole planet. Will gets the ability to transform into different forms, each with unique abilities, as he travels: Freedan, a dark knight, and Shadow, a solid form of energy.

  • Kirby’s Pinball Land was a Game Boy game published in Japan in 1993. Discover worlds of pinball fun in the palm of your hand with this HAL Laboratory pinball game. Take aim and choose your universe. Kirby will be thrust into the fast-paced perils of unknown planets, but you may assist him in confronting his opponents. It’s a pinball race to see what surprises and hazards each new planet has to offer. In confrontations against poisonous eyes, a shooting tree, and mace-wielding maniacs, flip Kirby.

  • Boy in a virtual world Wario Land was launched in North America on the Virtual Boy in 1995. Wario was having a well-deserved break in the Awazon Jungle in this platformer game created by Nintendo R&D1.   • Kirby’s Dream Land 3 was released in North America in 1997 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. King Dedede has been possessed by an evil spirit and is creating chaos all across Dream Land in this action-platformer game produced by HAL Laboratory, and only Kirby can rescue the day! Kirby can devour his adversaries and acquire their skills such as fire, ice, and stone, as well as summoning his animal buddies Rick the Hamster and Nago the Cat.

  • In Japan, Pac-Man Vs. was launched on the Nintendo GameCube in 2003. A Game Boy Advance, the GameCube-Game Boy Advance link cable accessory, and one to three GameCube controllers are needed to play this labyrinth game created by Nintendo EAD. A predefined score value of 7,000, 10,000, or 15,000 points may be selected before the game starts, affecting the length of the game.   • In Europe, Reflect Missile (Trajectile in North America) was launched in 2009 for DSiWare. Action, puzzle, and strategy collide in this action/puzzle game made by Q-Games! Launch an arsenal of missiles and demolish all opponent blocks in each level using the Touch Screen and stylus.
