Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Officially Delayed to 2023

Rocksteady and Warner Bros. have just announced that their highly anticipated game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed to 2023 from its official release date of 2020 due to an “unforeseen change in development.”

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was reported to be delayed by Bloomberg in February, and it looks that the magazine was correct. The “genre-bending action-adventure shooter” featuring DC’s band of famous antiheroes will not be launched on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC until spring 2023, according to Sefton Hill, Rocksteady Games’ creative director and co-founder. The initial release date for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was set for 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been pushed out until the spring of 2023. (IGN)

Due to the delay, the Suicide Squad game will most likely be released almost eight years after Rocksteady’s previous major console game, Batman: Arkham Knight, and seven years after their last overall game, Batman: Arkham VR. It’s a significant delay for Rocksteady, who created and published the whole core Arkham series in less than eight years (having started working on Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2007).

After years of rumors and leaks, Rocksteady confirmed that a Suicide Squad game will be released in 2020. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, set in the Arkham game universe, will be an open world co-op action game in which up to four people may play as Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang. The collected supervillains will be sent to Metropolis to take down corrupted versions of Superman, The Flash, and other legendary DC heroes.

The game was supposed to come out in 2022, but a Bloomberg article earlier this year hinted at a postponement. Although no explanation has been offered for the delay, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has already announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Hogwarts Legacy, and Gotham Knights will all be released this year, despite the fact that all three were previously postponed.
