The Five Greatest Fighting Games of All-Time

The fighting game genre has been around for decades. It is one of the most popular genres in gaming, with a large number of titles to choose from. What are the five greatest fighting games ever made?

The most popular fighting games 2020 is a list of the five greatest fighting games of all-time. The list was created by GameSpot and includes titles such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and Soul Calibur.

Nothing compares to the adrenaline-fueled fighting game genre among all the verticals that video gaming has created over the years. Fighting games usually manage to find that sweet spot between gaming amusement and engaging action, as anybody who has ever stepped into a virtual brawl after a long and stressful day at the office will testify.

Hundreds of fighting games have gone through our systems since video gaming has been a staple in our homes, cellphones, and eSports arenas for well over three decades. What are the five best fighting games of all time, among the plethora of beat ’em ups, battle royales, and old-school arcade brawls?

So, how about we have a look?

  1. Instinct for Killing

Given that the series was originally created in 1994, Gen Z players are unlikely to be acquainted with this classic, yet Rare’s Killer Instinct still packs a punch to this day. Particularly in its Xbox One iteration.

The original series only had three games, but when Microsoft bought it in 2013, it gave it a new lease of life, and it’s since evolved into one of the greatest fighting games of the decade.

Killer Instinct was a fighting game created by lovers of the genre for fans of the genre, which set it different from many of its competitors. The PC version is similarly free to download, but the amount of combatants you may play with without needing to make extra payments is restricted.

Of course, if you have Xbox Game Pass, you may play the game in its entirety for free, so go out and conquer!

  1. Dragon Ball FighterZ is a video game based on the Dragon Ball

For horror lovers, this inclusion may be divisive, but FighterZ deserves to be on this list. In all honesty, there has yet to be a poor Dragon Ball game, but FighterZ stands out as the greatest.

FighterZ, while being set in the Dragon Ball Super chronology, is more of a side story to the main series. Unlike previous Xenoverse games, it eliminates the heavy RPG aspects in favor of rigorous, all-out brawling.

There’s plenty of a narrative to keep non-fight enthusiasts interested as well: players must face off against the terrifying Android 21, a humanoid on the loose who is connecting human souls with technology. There are also a number of well-known Dragon Ball characters in attendance.

  1. Mortal Kombat X is a fighting game developed by Capcom.

When the Mortal Kombat series debuted on consoles in 1992, the amount of gore in video games was still very low. MK, on the other hand, revolutionized everything with its infamous fatality — arguably one of the greatest power-ups in video game history. And, almost three decades later, the Mortal Kombat series continues to provide exciting gameplay.

Mortal Kombat X is already six years old, yet it is still the greatest game in the series. It improved on its predecessor in almost every aspect when it was originally launched, bringing us more characters, better graphics, and spectacular in-game features.

Sure, there are old favorites like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and the Cages on the list, but NetherRealm has also thrown in a few crossovers since the game’s debut. MKX is the game to play as a Xenomorph in if you want to be one.

  1. Street Fighter III is a fighting game developed by Capcom.

You were either a Mortal Kombat or a Street Fighter enthusiast back in the console era. Rarely do gamers support both equally enthusiastically. Nowadays, however, everything goes, and we may love SF just as much as we enjoy MK, despite the fact that we rate Street Fighter III one spot higher than MK.

This is a game that harkens back to the previous century’s vintage arcade period, thus it’s not as polished as some of 2021’s other efforts. However, it is still considered one of the best fighting games of all time, as shown by the fact that it was ported to three different platforms between 2000 and 2010.

SFIII: Third Strike expands on everything that made SF II so fun, expanding the character pool and adding numerous changes to improve gameplay dynamics.

  1. Melee in Super Smash Bros.

So there it is, the greatest fighting game of all time. Are you sure you weren’t expecting this?

Listen to what we have to say. Super Smash Bros. Melee is the undisputed monarch of melee combat games; it established the genre as more than a fad, and its lightning-fast gameplay and strong competitive edge continue to make it a fan favorite even in 2021.

Melee elevated the Super Smash Bros. series from a charming and fluffy Nintendo crossover to a genuine, lean, and deadly fighting machine. Although some players may be offended by its “abnormal” gameplay mechanics, no one can dispute that it is the most influential fighting game of the century.
