The Core i9-12900K, Intel’s forthcoming 12th Gen flagship “Alder Lake” processor, will outperform AMD’s finest Zen 3 mainstream desktop CPU. According to recent Cinebench R20 test results provided by hardware leaker OneRaichu, his Core i9-12900K qualifying sample achieved single-thread and multi-thread scores of 810 and 11,600, respectively, without any kind of overclock. According to Guru3D’s rankings, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X only achieves a single-thread score of 643 and a multi-thread score of 10,409. However, OneRaichu cautioned Intel supporters not to get too enthusiastic, since they are limited benchmarks that are likely to represent just certain workloads. Additionally, it’s been speculated that when Intel’s Core i9-12900turbo K’s mode is fully used, the processor may produce up to 200 watts.

Please don’t be overjoyed too soon. One of the most pressing issues will be power usage. In full turbo frequency, it may easily exceed 200W.

The Intel Core i9-12900K has a hybrid architecture that includes both high-performance Golden Cove and high-efficiency Gracemont cores. Because the lower cores do not enable hyperthreading, this arrangement results in 16 cores and 24 threads. On Golden Cove, the 12900K should boost up to 5.3 GHz, while Gracemont should boost up to 3.9 GHz. This processor will be the first mainstream desktop CPU to handle both DDR5 memory technology and the newest PCIe Gen5 interface, thanks to its 10nm Enhanced SuperFin manufacturing process.
