The festive period leading up to the turn of the year gave people around the world the opportunity to recharge the worn batteries from 2024 and look ahead to what 2025 might bring. Replenished energy and renewed optimism are the approach for millions worldwide as they make the countdown from ten and for those involved in the eSports industry, there are plenty of reasons to get excited for 2025.

With a packed 2025 event calendar to look forward to, along with some major eSporting tournaments, it is time to unleashed that restored energy. We have officially moved into a digital era and with that comes more opportunity for emerging online entertainment such as eSports and online casinos. The latter is an example of the options players are exploring when looking to play online, with online gambling operators also benefiting from the growing influence of the digital realm.

But arguably the most exciting and most widely recognised product to be born out of the digital era is eSports and with the movement gathering pace, the noise around the competitive online gaming industry will only grow louder. There is certainly enough lined up this year to get eSports fans incredibly excited.

Olympic eSports Games 2025

2025 marks the year when the first ever eSports Olympics will take place. After the International Olympic Committee voted in favour of hosting a version of the Olympics for eSports at the recent Paris Olympics, the inaugural event will take place in Saudi Arabia. A deal was agreed with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to stage the next twelve editions of the eSports Olympics on the Arabian Peninsula, with cities rotating as hosts once that period is over.

It is unknown as yet which games will feature at the eSports Olympics but with titles to choose from such as Starcraft II, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, there is plenty of action expected between the best athletes the eSports industry has to offer. Although there was an Olympic eSports Series back in 2023, along with the Intel eSports Masters, both recognised by the IOC, the door has been fully opened to an eSports competition to grace the global stage. No dates have been announced as yet for the inaugural event, but eSports fans will be entering them into their diaries as soon as they are.

eSports World Cup 2025

Following the success of the inaugural World Cup in 2024, the next edition of the eSports World Cup is already building up a promising head of steam. The titles to feature at the 24-event competition have been confirmed including Rocket League, EA Sports FC 25, Dota 2, Honor of Kings, and Chess. From multiplayer battle grounds to the battle on the chess board, the eSports World Cup will certainly offer up a variety of challenges for the competitors and fans this year.

The number of teams has also been increased from 30 to 40 meaning there will be more scope for surprise results and outcomes. From June to August, the eyes of the eSports world will fall on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as teams duke it out for world domination.

Global eSports Market

With two major competitions already pencilled in for 2025, it promises to be a cracking year of eSports action. Although there is a bit of a wait for the two aforementioned events, there is plenty of eSports action to follow in the meantime, beginning with the IEM Katowice 2025 tournament featuring CS:GO. With a whopping $400,000 worth of prize money for the individual player victor along with $250,000 club prize money, there is enough incentive besides from the two major tournaments later in the year.

The eSports industry will also have the opportunity to show off its global outreach once again with events taking place this year in Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Korea, Romania, Germany, India, Canada, and China. These countries make up just a handful of the destinations eSports athletes and organisers will visit in 2025. This year could mark the official welcoming of eSports to the global sports scene. And with more digital avenues to follow the action than ever before, you cannot miss it.
